Zoho Books management reporting, delivered as a finished monthly report

Sign in to Zoho, pick the Books organisation, and the Financial Analyst turns its general ledger into a management report draft every month, for your approval: profit and loss, a balance sheet, cash with a 13-week forecast, and a variance read that names what moved. Every Zoho Books permission the sign-in asks for is a read-only one.

Works — we are verifying it on our first customers' books. Tell us if anything looks off.

What the monthly report contains

  • Profit and loss, and a balance sheet, from the general ledger itself. Zoho publishes no report API, so both statements are built from the ledger lines of every account — opening balances and journals included. That is also why every figure opens to the postings behind it.
  • Cash, 13 weeks out. A forecast with its minimum balance and headroom.
  • Revenue and costs by customer and supplier. Each month's revenue and costs are grouped by the customer or supplier named on the ledger line, and the balance each customer owes you, and you owe each supplier, is read at the month end. A line with no name is shown as not specified, never guessed.
  • What is overdue. The invoices and bills still open in Zoho Books are read with their due dates and payment terms.
  • Variance against the prior month, with causes. Each line that moved is explained by the accounts that moved it and by how much.

The same monthly close also produces an investor report, a board deck as slides (PPTX) laid out from the report you approve, and an Excel workbook with live formulas.

What the Financial Analyst reads from Zoho Books

Your chart of accounts and every account's ledger lines, your organisations and their currency, and the invoices and bills still open. On the first connection the analyst reads up to 24 months of history, so the first report already has a past to compare with.

Not read yet: Zoho Books reporting tags. The breakdowns above come from the customer or supplier on each ledger line, not from your tags.

Several organisations? One Zoho account can hold several Books organisations. Each one read is a company of its own in Ataski, named after the organisation and kept in its currency. The Team plan holds three companies in one workspace.

How to connect Zoho Books

  1. Start your free month, open the Financial Analyst's Data & settings and press Connect on the Zoho Books card.
  2. Sign in to Zoho and approve. Zoho accounts live in regional data centres; the sign-in finds yours.
  3. If the account holds more than one Books organisation, pick the one to read. With a single organisation this step is skipped.
  4. The first load of that organisation's books starts at once, and your first report draft is prepared from it.

It is the same Zoho sign-in the Renewal Manager uses for Zoho CRM, so one approval covers both — which is why the permissions below include three Zoho CRM scopes the Financial Analyst never reads.

What «Beta» means here

The Zoho Books reader is built from Zoho's published API reference and it works; no customer's Zoho Books organisation has been read by it yet, so the first customers' books are where it is being verified. Check your first report against a report you already trust before you rely on it.

Every permission the connection asks Zoho Books for

Permission What it is used for

ZohoBooks.bills.READ Bills still open, with supplier, balance, due date and payment terms.
ZohoBooks.contacts.READ The customers and suppliers your invoices and bills are addressed to.
ZohoCRM.modules.contacts.READ Zoho CRM, not Books: the same Zoho sign-in serves the Renewal Manager. The Financial Analyst does not read it.

Checked before it reaches you or your board

  • A second, independent AI reviewer reads every monthly narrative before release. When it disagrees with the analyst, the disagreement comes to you instead of being settled quietly.
  • An AI explanation that cites a source outside your books is discarded, not published. If the month is not closed yet, the report says so and shows only the lines the books support.
  • EBITDA is called EBITDA only when depreciation is read from the books; otherwise the line is named the operating result.
