AI CFO software for small business: what it is, what it does, what it costs

AI CFO software connects to your accounting system and does the recurring finance work that otherwise waits for a CFO, a controller or an evening with spreadsheets: it turns each closed month into a management report, forecasts cash week by week, and explains in plain words what moved and why. It does not replace the person who runs the business. It replaces the hours of assembly before a decision can start. Below: what the category covers, what to expect from it every month, what it costs, how to judge whether it is safe to connect, and how to see one working before you connect anything.

What is AI CFO software?

Three jobs sit under the name. Reporting: the profit and loss, the balance sheet and cash for the month, compared with the prior month and the same month last year. Forecasting: a cash outlook, usually 13 weeks out, so a shortfall shows up while there is still time to act. Explaining: a written read of each line that moved, traced back to the accounts that moved it.

Ataski's version is called the Financial Analyst. It reads QuickBooks Online or Xero — NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Zoho Books and Business Central are in beta — and drafts all three for your approval every month.

What it does every month

  • On the 1st of every month. A report draft for the month just ended, waiting for your approval.
  • Profit and loss against the prior month — and from day one against the same month last year, because the first connection reads the trailing 24 months.
  • Balance sheet against the prior month end.
  • Cash, 13 weeks out. A weekly forecast with its minimum balance and the week it falls, beside the open invoices and bills falling due.
  • Variance with causes. Each material line that moved is explained by what moved it — customers, products or cost accounts — and by how much.
  • Once approved, the report comes out as a board deck (PPTX). A one-page investor update is drafted from the same books, and an Excel workbook with live formulas is ready to download.

What it does not do

  • It does not write to your books. It never posts a journal entry, never edits a transaction and never closes your books.
  • It does not decide for you. A second, independent AI reviewer reads every monthly narrative, and a disagreement comes to you instead of being settled quietly.
  • It does not invent numbers. A month your books have not closed yet shows revenue only: cost of sales and margin stay blank rather than being invented.
  • It is not a CPA firm. No audit, review, assurance or tax advice.

What it costs

Price it against what the report costs you today: the hours your team spends assembling the month, or what you pay an outside accountant for monthly reporting. Ataski's Financial Analyst:

  • Solo — $599 a month for one company.
  • Team — $1,499 a month for three companies. Invite as many colleagues as you like: the plan counts companies, never seats.
  • Practice — $1,995 a month for up to 10 companies.
  • First month free, no card. It starts when you connect your books; without a card by the end, the plan pauses — it is not cancelled. Yearly billing comes with two months free; the free first month comes with monthly billing.
  • Cancel any time in Settings. If it is not a fit, ask within 14 days of the first charge and that charge is refunded in full.

Is it safe to connect your books?

  • We only read — never write to your books. QuickBooks and Business Central publish no read-only permission, so their tokens could write; Ataski only issues read requests.
  • Stored in the US, never used to train AI. Neither Ataski nor Anthropic trains models on your data.
  • Separated by the database. Your workspace cannot see another workspace's rows: the boundary is enforced by the database, not by application code.
  • Checked in public. The Trust & security page lists every control in place — and what has not been audited yet.

How to choose: five questions to ask

  1. Does it read your ledger directly, or do you export files every month?
  2. Can you trace every figure in the commentary back to an account?
  3. What happens when the software is unsure — does it guess, or ask you?
  4. Can you see a full, finished sample before you sign up?
  5. What does it cost per company, and can you start without a card?

Questions

What is AI CFO software?

Software that connects to your accounting system and does the recurring reporting work — the monthly management report, a cash forecast and a written explanation of what changed — so the owner or finance lead reviews and decides instead of building spreadsheets.

Can AI CFO software replace a CFO?

No. It takes over the recurring reporting and forecasting work; decisions and accountability stay with people. Ataski's Financial Analyst drafts the report for your approval, a second independent AI reviewer reads every monthly narrative, and disagreements come to you. It is not a CPA firm: no audit, review, assurance or tax advice.

How much does AI CFO software cost?

Ataski's Financial Analyst is $599 a month for one company, $1,499 for three companies and $1,995 for up to ten, or yearly with two months free. On monthly billing the first month is free with no card; it starts when you connect your books. If it is not a fit, ask within 14 days of the first charge and that charge is refunded in full.

Is it safe to connect QuickBooks or Xero?

Ataski only issues read requests: it never posts a journal entry, never edits a transaction and never closes your books. Intuit's accounting permission has no read-only version, so the QuickBooks access you approve is technically read and write, but Ataski only reads. Your data is stored in the United States and never used to train AI models.

How soon do I see the first report?

Right after you connect, the first sync reads the trailing 24 months of your books, and your first report draft is prepared from it. After that the report is refreshed on the 1st of every month, for the month just ended, as a draft that waits for your approval.
